We have been conditioned to think that change is hard. Actually, all we have to do is make minor changes in our lives to reap major benefits. These simple changes can include massage therapy, exercise and proper rest.
- Sit Up Straight! One easy fix is the old stand-by: pay attention to your posture. Sit up straight - shoulders back - chest out. The most important reasons are that proper posture balances and maintains the structure of your body and gives the vital organs room to function. The second and little known reason is mental. Try this…slouch down in your chair. Do you feel less lively - less full of energy? Almost depressed? Now - sit up and breathe deep. Big difference?
- Stretch! Ok, this is the one that is the hardest to get all my clients to do. I know - what a terrible word. We all get this vision of lying on the floor stretching our hamstrings and writhing around in agony. But it does not have to be that way! You should be stretching throughout your day. For every 30 to 60 minutes worth of work, you should take a 10-minute break and stretch. You have to put new movements/information into your nervous system to help offset repetitive motion injuries i.e. carpal tunnel syndrome. Lucky for you, I have a variety of stretches to help you. Stretching classes such as Pilates and Yoga are helpful. I use assisted stretching along with Therapeutic Massage to help you stretch with less discomfort.
- Move! Yes - movement is very important. Our bodies are designed to be active. This activity feeds our cells and brings energy to them - thus energy to us! Too many times lack of movement can lead to injury. Just take a simple walk at lunch or take the stairs instead of the elevator. Better yet, exercise on a regular basis for 30 minutes 2x-3x a week. This will help insure a longer happier life!
